Story
Areias Farm, located at 1250 meters in Guapé, Minas Gerais, Brazil, spans 122 hectares, with 56 hectares dedicated to growing Yellow Catuai and Paraiso 2 coffee varieties. Managed by agronomist Rafael Naves de Figueiredo, the farm began coffee cultivation in 2019. Rafael, who grew up influenced by his grandfather’s work on “Fazenda do Gordura” in Santana da Vargem, pursued agronomy and spent a decade working with organo-mineral fertilizers across Brazil’s coffee regions.
Drawn to the Serra Nova area’s high altitude and scenic views, Rafael and his wife Marianna now manage the Areias and Boa Vista properties, emphasizing sustainable practices suited to the region's climate. The farm employs integrated pest management, biological control, and utilizes organo-mineral fertilizers. Conservation practices include maintaining areas larger than legally required, protecting natural springs, and using renewable energy with CO2-neutral initiatives.
Careful harvesting and drying in controlled-temperature static dryers enhance the quality of the coffee, while Rafael also prioritizes the well-being of employees and their families. Areias Farm represents a balance of modern agricultural practices, tradition, and a commitment to high-quality coffee production.
